This world and everything we face each day is in direct opposition to being at rest. It seems the enemy is on the prowl all the time. You’ve probably heard this verse:

“Your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)1

The devil is seeking people to devour through unbelief. That says to me that there are some that he can’t find or if he finds them, he can’t devour them. Now, we know he has been defeated and disarmed by the cross. He’s been defanged, but he can still roar. If we read that verse in context, we’ll see the key to keeping him seeking. The verse before that says,

“…casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

The context is very clear: if we cast our cares on the Lord believing that He cares for us, the devil may sniff around like a lion looking for prey, but he won’t be able to mess with us. We may see him coming, and even hear him roaring at us, but we just resist him and he has to flee.

“Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” (1 Peter 5:9)
