In the context of the detailed description of Jesus’ work on our behalf in Isaiah 53, in the very next chapter of Isaiah, God swore that because of that great act of intercession, He will never be angry with us again.
With a little wrath, I hid My face from you for a moment; but with everlasting kindness, I will have mercy on you,” says the LORD, your Redeemer. “For this is like the waters of Noah to Me; for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth, so have I sworn that I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you.” (Isaiah 54:8-9)1
The “waters of Noah” were the waters of God’s judgment. Here is that last part of that passage in the New Living Translation:
“I swear that I will never again be angry and punish you.” (Isaiah 54:9, NLT)2
Why will He never be angry with us or punish us? Because Jesus took the waters of judgment for us! If you read somewhere or hear that God is angry with you, please know that it is not true. The accuser of the brethren, satan, wants you to believe that.
We all know about the symbol of the rainbow as God’s promise that He would never destroy the earth again by means of a flood, but the rainbow is also a symbol of the promise that Christ has taken the floods of judgment for us, and He has promised He will never be angry with us or punish us! In heaven right now, there is a rainbow around the throne of grace where the King of kings is seated at the right hand of God.3 When you imagine Jesus in heaven, I want you to see this rainbow all around Him and all around yourself because you are in Him! Picture this with your spiritual eyes any time you think God is angry with you!
