When bad things happen to us or when we do bad things, we need to hang on to the truth that God is not mad at us. God has made an enduring covenant with us and wants us to rest in His presence and in His love. He will never be angry with us — not because we are good, but because the work of His Son on our behalf is perfect and finished!

Isaiah 54, which gives us this promise,1 is one of the most awesome chapters of promise in the scriptures:

“For the mountains shall depart And the hills be removed, But My kindness shall not depart from you, Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,” says the LORD, who has mercy on you… In righteousness you shall be established; you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; And from terror, for it shall not come near you… No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the LORD. (Isaiah 54:10, 14, 17) 2

When the prophet Isaiah speaks of being established in righteousness, he is not referring to our righteousness. He is referring to God’s righteousness. “Established” means stable, fixed, and settled. 3 We could never be stable in our own righteousness.

Jesus has interceded for us with ONE great act of intercession. We are blessed, protected, healthy, and provided for because He is our righteousness. God wants us stable, fixed, and settled in Christ’s righteousness!
