He became a curse for us.
Galatians 3:13 tells us that Jesus became a curse for us when He became sin on the cross. He didn’t have to ask for the curse to come on Him; He became the curse that we deserved because He became our sin. The curse was simply attracted to our sin on Him.
The curse of the law is described in Deuteronomy 28:15-68. Read it some time and see what evil fell upon Jesus for our sakes. When you do, I believe you’ll love Him all the more!
We should take great comfort in knowing that God is our Healer and Deliverer and Sustainer of all life. Why? Because the full force of the entire curse of the law fell on Jesus. That’s why we are redeemed from the curse and should never receive any of the effects of it. Don’t you think that Jesus should get what He paid for?
Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes, we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, everyone, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all… He bore the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53:4-6, 12)1
