We hear the word “obedience” a lot, but what kind of obedience? Under the New Covenant of grace, our obedience is an obedience to the faith. In the book of Romans, Paul speaks of the obedience of faith:

Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith. (Romans 16:25-26)1

“Obeying from the heart this doctrine to which you were delivered”2 is the process of the renewal of our minds to the truth of our new identity in Christ as His righteousness.

…and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:23-24)

The “new man” is the new creation, formed in true righteousness and holiness! Now we have the mind of Christ.3 We have a new heart and a new spirit within us.4

Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:2-3)

Amen!
