Jesus is the King of kings. We are kings in His kingdom! By virtue of being a king, we will engage in warfare. Reigning in this life involves a fight, but there is only one type of battle for the believer:
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. (1 Timothy 6:12)1
We are to “lay hold of eternal life.” Eternal life doesn’t start when we get to heaven. Eternal life is inside of us right now! Zoe2 — the life that God Himself lives — flows to us from heaven and through us in rivers of living water when we lay hold of that life and fight the good fight of faith, believing we are righteous from faith to faith! Our battlefield is the mind where we take hold of the truth and take captive anything that comes against it.
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)
Anything that comes against the knowledge and obedience of Christ can form a stronghold in our minds — a fortress that can keep us from receiving. We bring down the strongholds to the OBEDIENCE OF CHRIST — His obedience, not the obedience of our flesh! “By one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.”3 If you are born again in Christ, you have a failure-proof, devil-proof righteousness. Don’t be afraid to remind the devil of that!
