Did you know that Jesus came to do the Father’s will?
“Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come—In the volume of the book it is written of Me— To do Your will, O God.’ Previously saying, ‘Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them’ (which are offered according to the law), then He said, ‘Behold, I have come to DO YOUR WILL, O God.’ He takes away the first that He may establish the second.” (Hebrews 10:7-9)1
Christians often wonder what the will of God is. The will of God is that He doesn’t want His people under law. So Jesus took away the first covenant of law that He could establish the New Covenant of grace.
“By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” (Hebrews 10:10)
We’ve been sanctified. Past tense. “Sanctified” means “to separate from profane things and dedicate to God.”2 We have been separated from every profane thing in this world and have been dedicated to God. We have been separated from every curse of darkness to every blessing of light. This verb “sanctified” is in the perfect tense meaning one time, never to be repeated.3 We have been made holy “once for all!” And it’s “by that will” that we have been made holy, not by our performance, but through His blood!
