The law says, “draw back.” Grace says, “draw near.”
“…and it [the law] was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator. Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one.” (Galatians 3:19-20)1
In the Old Covenant of law, Moses and the angels were mediators between the people and God because the people could not come near God in that covenant. In the New Covenant God Himself mediated the covenant with Himself so that man could draw near to Him.
Jesus Christ is the one and only meeting ground between God and man. Through the cross of Jesus,
“Mercy and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed.” (Psalm 85:10)
Even to this day, the Man, Jesus Christ, intercedes for us with His blood that declares us cleansed and righteous.
“For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:5)
“There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel’s veins. And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains!”2
