Did you know that as a believer in Jesus Christ, you are the “Seed of Abraham”?
“Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, ‘And to seeds,’ as of many, but as of one, ‘And to your Seed,’ who is Christ.” (Galatians 3:16)1
Where Paul says, “and to your Seed,” he is talking about Jesus. The Good News is that we are descendants of this Seed! He was the firstborn of many brethren. If we are in Christ we are Abraham’s seed and heirs according the promise.2
“And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise. “(Galatians 3:17-18)
The law covenant was revoked, but the covenant that God made with Abraham was an everlasting covenant. The law was given to Moses at Mount Sinai four hundred thirty years AFTER the Abrahamic covenant. It was supplementary to God’s covenant of grace and was therefore secondary to it. The law came in alongside the Abrahamic covenant of grace, but this covenant of grace was never annulled!
Unlike the Mosaic covenant of law, Paul doesn’t say that the Abrahamic covenant was FULFILLED in Christ; he says it was CONFIRMED by God in Christ. It confirms that God has always been a God of grace, and grace has always been His main agenda and His heart for us!
