The idea of being a son verses being a servant in our relationship with the Lord under the New Covenant is a theme woven throughout Paul’s writings. There is no more comforting thought than knowing that our Daddy is the creator and owner of the entire universe and beyond.
“Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, testifying to what would be said in the future. But Christ is faithful as a son over God’s house.” (Hebrews 3:5-6)1
Moses was a servant, and those who were under the law were servants.
Christ is the Son, and those who are in Christ are sons of God.
Once we understand the meaning of sonship, we will walk in the love and authority of our Father. His mission, vision, and heart will be our very own. However, before we can truly function as a family in the body of Christ in those horizontal relationships with honor, respect, mutual submission, and love, we must understand the vertical love relationship of spiritual sonship with our heavenly Father.
