The New Covenant: an intrinsic covenant made within the infallibility of the Trinity.

The Abrahamic Covenant: a picture of this unconditional covenant.

An example of this unconditional covenant can be seen in the deliverance of God’s people from their captivity Egypt.

Hundreds of years into the Israelites’ captivity in Egypt, Moses was born to lead them in their deliverance. The Bible says that God sent Moses to set the people free because He remembered the covenant He had made with Abraham.

And God spoke to Moses and said to him: “I am the Lord. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name Lord I was not known to them. I have also established My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, in which they were strangers. And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel whom the Egyptians keep in bondage, and I have remembered My covenant. (Exodus 6:2-5)1

Think about this little nugget: the Israelites had been given the land of Goshen to settle in by the Pharaoh who had been so kind to Joseph many years before. “Goshen” means “drawing near.”2 When Moses boldly approached the evil Pharaoh about setting the people free, God sent ten plagues on the entire land of Egypt, although one area was protected: Goshen.3 God’s people were near to Him, and therefore they were protected. How much more we today who have the presence of God inside of us. How much more near can we be?

All throughout the years, the covenant of grace that God made within Himself on behalf of Abraham and all of his descendants was still in place. It was never annulled, even when the Mosaic covenant was agreed upon by God’s people (Gal 3:17). God’s unconditional covenant of grace could not be broken because it was not dependent on man to keep it.4

The New Covenant is the same: it’s a covenant that was made within the Trinity. The only way that it could be broken is if Jesus sinned or if His blood didn’t take away our sin. Neither is possible. We’re in. There’s nothing left to be done.
