In Exodus 16, we find the story of the manna. Every day starting on the 16th day of the 2nd month for the entire forty years that the Israelites were in the wilderness, God provided bread from heaven which they called manna, which means “What is it?”1
Fast forward to the New Testament, about fifteen hundred years after the wilderness experience, Jesus revealed Himself as the Bread from heaven:
Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.” And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. (John 6:32-35)2
The manna in the wilderness was a manifestation and shadow of Jesus Christ, the true manna from heaven! Jesus said if we come to Him, we’ll never hunger; and if we believe, we’ll never thirst.
I can’t count how many times I cried in years past with tears streaming down my face and hands lifted to heaven, “I’m hungry for you, Lord!” Christians have bought into the idea that being starved for Jesus is admirable and spiritual. But what does the scripture say? Jesus said, “He who comes to Me shall never hunger.” If we are “hungry” it’s because we’re believing what our emotions are telling us based on what’s happening outside, instead of the reality of Christ’s fullness in our spirit. Have we come to Jesus? Have we received the Bread of Life? If so, we are complete in Him. All of the fullness of the Deity is in Him, and He is in us! We are full! If we are feeling empty, dry, and hungry, the answer is to behold our wonderful Jesus in His love, His wisdom, His promises, His provision, and His glory. See Him seated on the throne above all principalities and powers. See Him strong and powerful. And then, see yourself in Him!
